In my move to the Hudson Valley, I have befriended Melissa McGill as well as become a supporter of her latest ambitious project. Red Regatta is a site-specific public art project that will be presented during the 2019 Venice Biennale (May- November).
Featuring 50 unique shades of red, hand-painted sails, this series of spectacular water-based performances invites meditation on the relationship between city and sea integral to Venetian culture for millennia. Red Regatta also signals warning-- of the dual threats of climate change and the tragic effects of mass tourism on the city's fragile future.
